The Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Office of Civil Defense, and the World Bank successfully organized a writeshop aimed at enhancing the existing National Disaster Response Plans (NDRPs) of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The writeshop was held from August 30 to September 1, 2023, at Hotel Casiana in Tagaytay City.
The enhancement of the NDRPs is in line with the mandate of President Bongbong Marcos to strengthen the government’s disaster response capabilities; ensure immediate and efficient response to affected communities in times of emergency and disaster; and alleviate the hardships and miseries that disruptions and devastation bring upon the Filipino people.
The NDRPs serve as the national government’s strategic plan that outlines the processes and mechanisms necessary for facilitating well-coordinated and timely disaster response and early recovery efforts from the national to local levels. The enhancement of these NDRPs is crucial to ensuring their continued relevance, appropriateness, and utility.
The writeshop brought together various stakeholders, including member agencies from the NDRRMC Response and Early Recovery Pillar, representatives from the academe, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations. The revised NDRPs are expected to be finalized and published by the end of the year.
