The Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB), together with the DSWD Field Office VI through its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), spearheaded the conduct of the Workshop on Community-Based Mapping for Strengthening Disaster Resilience through Geographic Information System (GIS) on 03-07 July 2023 in Iloilo City. The activity was participated by the different Local Government Units (LGUs) of Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.

The activity aims to equip participants with basic knowledge and competencies on the importance and use of GIS through community mapping for better decision-making in disaster risk management.

The activity was joined by Subject Matter Experts from DSWD Central Office: Mr. Rodel Cabaddu (Project Development Officer IV), Ms. Leslie Jawili (Project Development Officer IV), Ms. Diane Pelegrino (Project Development Officer III), Ms. Cathlyn Suizo (Project Development Officer II) and Mr. Phil Zaldivar (Information Officer II); and Mr. Rowald Baluyut (Project Development Officer II) from DSWD Field Office IX.

DSWD remains steadfast in its commitment to provide technical assistance (TA) to LGUs and continuously enhance its reporting systems, protocols, and processes with the aid of new knowledge and technological advancements, to deliver timely, strategic, flexible, and inclusive disaster information management.
