As part of The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Anniversary month-long celebration this month with the theme “Social Integration: DSWD’s Major Thrust in line with the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022,” a Ceremonial Tree Planting Activity of 100 seedlings was held on 24 January 2020 at Baseco, Manila.
This is part of the initiative of the Department to strengthen community advocacy towards the preservation and protection of our environment and natural resources. Moreover, it affirms DSWD’s commitment that the programs of the government are geared towards prompt action on the negative impacts of climate change widely affecting the lives of many – not just in the Philippines, but in the entire world.
As part of the 69th DSWD Anniversary Community Advocacy Week, the Central Office together with the Field Offices, pledge to plant 6,900 trees all over the country for CY 2020. A Clean-Up Drive was also followed vis-à-vis the tree planting activity.
This is aligned with Section 8 of R.A. 10176, otherwise known as the Arbor Day Act of 2012, stating that “All able-bodied citizens of the Philippines, who are at least twelve (12) years of age, shall be required to plant one (1) tree every year.”
The tree planting activity was spearheaded by the Disaster Response Management Bureau Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM) -Preparedness Division under the leadership of Usec. Felicisimo C. Budiongan and Asec. Rodolfo M. Encabo of the Disaster Response Management Group in support of the CCAM program of the department. It was participated by the Executive Committee and Managament Committee of DSWD Central Office.
